I don’t know about you guys, but I hate going out for valentine’s day, it isn’t only overpriced but also overcrowded. It gives me the chills to think of either the long wait to be seated or the tables almost on top of each other. So yes, after my first and only valentine’s day going out I decided I would never do that again.
Although I don’t think it shouldn’t be celebrated, so here goes six steps to make your perfect valentines date at your own home, cheaper and a lot more enjoyable than going out...
#1 - buy flowers
Just like restaurants, flowers will also be marked up on valentine’s day, so go to a grocery store early in the week and pick up your favorite bouquet.
You can find beautiful flowers with really good prices at Trader Joe’s. I don’t think there’s a need to buy those expensive arrangements with a cristal vase. Just buy the flowers and arrange your flowers in some vase that you already have at home!
But don’t skip the flowers, they are the beauty of Valentine’s Day.
#2 - don’t forget the bubbly
A nice bottle of champagne, wine or anything sparkly will make your dinner a little more romantic and dreamy. In my case - breastfeeding - I am doing the French berry sparkling lemonade from Trader Joe’s, they are delicious 😋 and pretty and cheap!
#3 - cook a new recipe
Research online and pick some of those recipes that make your mouth water. Write down the ingredients and since you are already going to the store for the flowers, use the trip to buy everything you need for your recipe.
Since it will be a new recipe, if something goes wrong, as a “plan B” order a heart shaped pizza from papa john’s! 😉
#4 - set up the table
You know those fancy dishes that you were given as a wedding present? Now is the time to use them. Gather up some candles and flowers on the table, candles are so romantic, and it can transform your everyday scene into something special.
P.S.: Don’t forget to invite Michael Bubblé & John Legend to make it even more special!
#5 - don’t skip dessert
If you are in the mood for cooking you could do a chocolate fondue with fruits, or if you, like me, have a busy day and don’t have time for much preparation, just get a box chocolates at the grocery store!
#6 - netflix and chill
And to finish your valentine date at home watch a romantic movie cuddling on the couch!
I don’t know about you, but I would trade going out on Valentine’s Day for this any time.
